Review - Acer Aspire 6920-6422 Laptop

Review - Acer Aspire 6920-6422 Laptop

Hdmi

Pros: Cosmetic Design and build quality, Fast Processor, Lots of Ram, Blu-Ray, Fast Dedicated Video Card, HDMI Output, Bluetooth, Wireless N

Cons: Speakers are weak compared to the rest of the system, but not bad, Could use a bigger hard drive.

Summary: Hands down, this is the best value in a no compromise full power multi-media laptop. This should replace your old desktop pc, or be your first pc if you don't own one yet.

What can I say about the Acer Aspire 6920-6422? Intel dual core 2.5mhz processor - check, 4gb of ram - check, dedicated nVidia 9500 video card with HDMI - check, Blue-Ray player - check, Bluetooth - check, Wireless N - check. All this packaged in a beautiful shell that you can't take your eyes off of.

This laptop is designed to do everything a PC is supposed to do. The core elements of this laptop should give you years of use for any office application, graphic intensive multimedia applications, with HD movies and gaming in all it's glory. The combination of the dual core 2.5ghz processor, 4gb of ddr2 ram, and super fast nVidia 9500 video card is the perfect combination for the current Windows Vista operating system. It's the only laptop in this price range that puts all these things together in a beautiful and well made shell.

Without getting too technical with speed charts, features, and benchmarks, it's suffice to say that the Intel processor in the Acer Aspire 6920-6422 if one of the best available today. Faster than any other CPU in almost any laptop in any price range. It's going to breeze through Microsoft Office applications like Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Plenty of power to handle rendering and processing in any graphic application such as found in Adobe CSx suites. It will even power through any processor intensive strategy games giving you fast response times. Trust me, the processor will not be the weak link in your laptop adventures.

The next link in the chain is the memory. With 4gb of DDR2 ram, Windows Vista will have plenty of room to open multiple office applications, surf the web, and check email all at the same time. You'll be able to switch between any of these applications with speed and confidence. For graphic intensive applications, you'll be able to work with large photo files, edit HD video content (like from your camera or camcorder), and seamlessly cut, paste, and undo any kind of multimedia content the typical consumer would ever work with.

The final link in the chain is the video card. The Acer Aspire 6920-6422 comes with the nVidia GeForce 9500M GS. This is the laptop version from it's powerful line of desktop video cards. Most laptops use an integrated intel solution that works fine for office applications and watching movies. However, for graphic intensive applications like from Adobe, and gaming, you really need a powerful dedicated video card. The 9500 GS in this Acer does not disappoint. Again, without getting too technical, you'll be able to watch HD movies using nVidia's highly rated PureVideo HD, and play most games at or near their max quality settings. The other nice thing about the video setup on this laptop is that it comes with an HDMI out port. This will let you hook up your laptop to your 60" HDTV and watch Blu-Ray movies in all their digital high definition glory.

Now lets talk about all the other specs that make up why this is such a great value. I don't put as much emphasis on the hard drive size as I used too. Until solid state drives become the de facto standard, there is very little difference in the laptop community. The hard drive is your standard SATA 250gb 5400rpm 2.5" drive. Nothing particularly special here. But at 250gb, it's large enough not to leave you wanting for any office application and gaming. For you multimedia users who edit large graphic files like raw photos and HD video, you probably already have an external drive for that stuff anyway. If you don't have one, get one. We all know how hard drives can and will fail eventually, so back up your pictures, movies, and projects to an external hard drive right away. Don't leave stuff like that on a laptop that can be dropped, lost, or stolen, right?

Now there are a ton of other features here that I'm going to skim through a bit, but these are the key features that will save you money because they are not normally found on other laptops in this price range. In particular, the built in Blu-Ray drive. You'd pay 0-0 for one of these separately. Bluetooth built in - you'd pay - for this separately. HDMI out - built in and cannot be added separately, so this is really really nice. Digital sound with s/pdif out - you'd pay -0 separately. Then there are the features you find on most laptops in this range such as memory card support, modem for dial up, ethernet, and USB ports. There's also the 16-inch 16:9 ratio display, built-in subwoofer, and touch-sensitive multimedia control panel. Don't let the subwoofer feature fool you. This is still a laptop speaker configuration that sounds better than most laptops, but is still a group of speakers in a thin plastic case. Don't expect to be able to hear this thing clearly in a noisy room, but it does sound great while typing away in your favorite chair.

I really like the blu-ray drive, bluetooth, and hdmi port. You can watch blu-ray movies on your HDTV and chat using your cell phone's bluetooth wireless headset on all the voice messaging services or VOIp like skype. These are the kind of features usually reserved for desktop users who would buy these things as add ons to their pc (like me). If you really wannabe be cool, buy a bluetooth keyboard and air mouse and use your hdtv as your main monitor. Turn your laptop into a true piece of home theater equipment since it already has the blu-ray drive, hdmi, and s/pdif audio.

The wireless-n is a nice feature. It's main advantage right now is range. Although it's theoretically 6x faster than wireless-g, it will be a long time before the cable/dsl companies will be able to pump out that kind of speed to the consumer. The theoretical 4x the range of wireless-g is where it's at. If you have a wireless-n router at home, then you'll be able to roam around your home without dropping the signal. Also, even though you won't see any difference in internet speeds, wireless-n offers enough speed to stream HD video content smoothly and transfer files between your laptop and desktop much faster as well.

Still, with all these features and power found in the Acer Aspire 6920-6422, I thought of a couple of things that would make this little gem standout just a tad more. For one, a SATA port for external hard drives. Of course you can buy USB external hard drives that offer virtually the same speed, but I prefer using the native SATA interface whenever possible. Most USB drives are really SATA drives with a conversion to USB built in. The only other thing I'd want is the latest dual-band wireless n. It already has wireless n built in, but they have recently come out with a dual band wireless n that can operate on a different frequency. This reduces interference commonly found in homes and offices that have all kinds of wireless devices.

If you're on the fence about deciding between a laptop and a desktop, get this laptop. In the long run, you'll appreciate the portability, space savings, and power savings of this laptop without compromising processing power and features. Plus, you won't need to buy a separate monitor ever, since you probably already have an HDTV which can be used as a monitor.

As of this writing, the best price can be found online for ,395.99 w/Free Shipping!

HDMI Repeater and Your Audio and Sound Systems

HDMI Repeater and Your Audio and Sound Systems

Hdmi

Don't you hate when your video drops out? Do you have a long HDMI cable and HDMI repeater between the source and the projector monitor that causes this? HDMI is a High Definition Multimedia Interface and is used for transmitting unprocessed digital data. It is currently the one cable that has the greatest ability to deliver high quality video and audio.

By using this cable, you can send video/audio from a source (DVD, HD box, etc) to a display like a TV or monitor. This cable which connects the two is made up of 19 individual wires forming one cable. This can be used with an HDMI repeater which is connected at the end of the HDMI cable or used to connect two cables together to make a longer HDMI connection.

This type of extension is very flexible with regard to your cable length as two cables can be used. THE HDMI repeater is very effective up to distances of 100 feet. This will work with both HDMI to HDMI and DVI (Digital Video Interface) to HDMI cables.

The repeater will perform best if it is placed at the end of the cable with a short HDMI extension cable to the display. Ideally the extension cable should not be more than 13 feet. There is not much to it: there is an HDMI input and output. There are also status lights to indicate performance.

What's the difference? Why use HDMI? The cable features a bandwidth of 5 gigabytes per second (GBPS) or even more. This provides the speed needed to transmit an HD signal plus with more space leftover. HDMI transmits a pure, uncompressed digital signal. While other connections use a digital-to-analog conversion and this can downgrade the picture quality.

Not like other video connections, HDMI includes audio, eliminating the need for separate audio cables. HDMI delivers the best high definition picture and highest quality sound and doing away with excess cables.

If you are planning to buy a high definition television and also subscribe to HD programming, HDMI is a very good choice fro connecting your components together and guaranteeing the highest quality video and sound. When considering to get a new television set, take into consideration how many sources you will be connecting using HDMI (cable, DVD, Blu-ray, gaming system, etc) and make sure it has a suitable number of HDMI inputs.

HDMI is a recognized technology, there are slight variations of HDMI such as HDMI 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. There are some sub-versions as well. Before deciding, read more about the specific features and differences. Being well informed about the pros and cons and different specifications will prove worthwhile when you enjoy your new audio-visual experience in high definition.

HDMI Matrix Switch Creates a Web of HDMI Interconnections

HDMI Matrix Switch Creates a Web of HDMI Interconnections

Hdmi

A complex combination of HDMI source and display devices can be achieved using a HDMI Matrix Switch. It is used to route and relay HDMI Video from multiple inputs to multiple output devices simultaneously. By eliminating the need to disconnect and reconnect the devices, this piece of hardware saves time, effort and unnecessary clutter. Since HDMI technology uses only a single cable to relay audio as well as video, high definition video and multi channel audio can be relayed as encrypted and uncompressed digital streams over a single thin cable.

Hardware devices such as HD-DVD players, satellite set-top boxes, TiVo systems or PCs that are HDMI-equipped and HDCP-enabled are all compatible with this switch. The HDMI Matrix supports a variety of form factors including 2x2, 4x2, 4x4 and 8x8 input - output configurations. In order to achieve larger distributions and multiple viewing combinations, one can daisy chain or stack these switches. Easy to install, and operating on simple plug and play functionality, setup requires only connecting the HDMI sources to the matrix's inputs and the displays to its outputs. Once powered on, the switch is ready to use.

Control over the sources and displays can be exercised using infra red remote control, front panel push buttons or RS232, depending on model type. Indication of the selected source is provided by the LEDs on the unit. This HDMI Video Matrix Switch works at a HDTV resolution up to 1080p, 2k and computer resolution up to 1920 x 1200 and relays images without ghosting of images or data loss, resulting in crisp and clear images.

The built-in repeater and equalized chipset can boost digital HD signal length and ensures that the resultant display is not pirated. A key feature is the ability to extend the range of HDMI compliant devices by equalizing and re-clocking the HDMI signal. Supporting a video amplifier bandwidth of 2.25 Gbps or 225 MHz, this device is equipped with regulatory approvals from CE, FCC and RoHS along with being compliant to HDMI and HDCP standards. This HDMI Matrix Switch finds usage in digital signage applications, commercial establishments and home theater set ups.

I was using a Dazzle* recorder to create game play videos. As far as I know, at the time of this recording, there was no HD recorder by Dazzle*. If there was an HD recorder, you could simply disconnect your PS3 or Xbox 360, from their HDMI port and connect it to the recording device. I didn't include a tutorial on how to use the Windows movie maker for this, so visit this Youtube link for a brief use of that program: www.youtube.com Sorry for any concepts, or information I didn't pronounce right, becuase I have alot of distractions that can interrupt me at any time, so I have limited focus. What to Look for When Purchasing an HDMI Receiver

What to Look for When Purchasing an HDMI Receiver

Hdmi

A factor often overlooked for a perfect home theater system is the ideal sound system to accompany the visual experience. While much attention has been the TV is the picture clearer, brighter views, and offer the deepest color, seems less for the quality of sound that accompany the visual experience will be paid. Some people are content to produce only their standard TV, the audio for the image presented on screen, but those people who arereally know the market for a true home theater experience that this can not happen without satisfactory quality surround sound and one of the components you need when you build the perfect setup audio receiver.

HDMI has become so popular because it has been largely replaced the cable toslink and coax that most of us are very familiar. If you're ready to make a new HDMI receiver you buy a few things you should doimportant to consider before putting your hard earned money. One of the most important things to consider are the number of inputs that the new HDMI receiver. You probably want a receiver that at least two but preferably four HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs. You also want to ensure that the recipient is sufficient coaxial and component inputs as well.

Watch a recipient of the highest quality you can afford to buy. The recipients are not the place where "cheapout "and get an inferior product. If you buy a receiver for low-quality, reasonably can be expected that the sound and picture quality of your home theater system is negatively affected. I would suggest that at least try to go in the middle of hundreds, $ 400 -. $ 600, received at the lower end of a good receiver, if you buy a receiver also check to ensure that the chosen model to date in terms of audio decoding, you are always best served by a receiver HDMI, it is.Manage audio decoding to combat the purchase of a pass-through recipients, the audio decoding is to put on your video player of choice.

Another thing to check is cut upconversion and cross-conversion with most of the cables in and out of the receiver and other components. This is more of a consideration optional, but it might be worth it if you do not want the system or go through a lot of threads, if you have no controlor set up your home theater system.

Short does not skimp when buying HDMI receiver. A good receiver of exceptional quality surround sound speakers connected you will see, if you have heard only the sound of the TV, what you missed. You will not regret spending a little 'more for the real home cinema experience with the purchase of the receiver.

Flat Or Round HDMI Cable For Your Home Theater?

Flat Or Round HDMI Cable For Your Home Theater?

Hdmi

Just when you thought it was safe to go out and buy an HDMI cable, you now have to consider a new and interesting concept; flat HDMI cable. What in the world were the manufacturers thinking when they came up with that idea? I thought all cables are supposed to be round.

There are a few advantages to using flat HDMI, but in my opinion, these advantages have nothing to do with the quality of video. I have used both flat and round HDMI cables in many installations and compared them side-by-side. I have never seen a difference in picture quality. I have asked other installers that I work with to also compare the flat against the round and they agree with my comparison. Visually we cannot see any difference in picture quality between the two cables.

Of course the hard-core home theater buffs will disagree with me and say that a flat HDMI cable will give you better video quality. There is a theory that states a round HDMI cable has internal wires that are wrapped around each other, where the flat one separates each internal wire across the width of the cable. This is supposed to eliminate the "crosstalk" (interference) that you may experience in the round cable. The flat HDMI may eliminate this "crosstalk", but visually, it sure doesn't make much difference in picture quality.

The biggest advantage to using a flat HDMI cable is convenience. It is easier to work with and I use it when my installations don't afford me a lot of room to move around.

Here are a few advantages to using a flat HDMI cable:

It bends easier. A round HDMI cable is thicker and cannot bend as easily as a flat one. This makes it easier to install into/along walls. It's easier to tuck behind a hanging HDTV. A round HDMI cannot be wrapped up as tight as a flat one can, and will tend to bulge from behind the television. You can hide it behind a baseboard better. It lays flat against the wall and this lets you put the baseboard back flush without gaps. Running it under carpet is easier. Just make sure you don't put it in under the carpet in a high traffic area. This is something that installers are doing these days since the cable with not cause a bump in your carpet. It can be painted easier than a round one can. This is a huge advantage if you decide to run your flat HDMI along the top of your baseboards and paint it to blend into the wall.

So the flat HDMI cable will function just as well as the round one will (maybe even better if you believe in the "crosstalk" theory), and as long as it is certified by the HDMI committee, you should consider buying the flat HDMI cable because of convenience, not video quality.

Gefen EXT-HDMI1.3-341 3x1 Switcher for HDMI 1.3
Gefen's 3x1 HDMI Switcher routes high definition video in multiple resolutions up to 1080p plus multichannel digital audio from any of three sources. Three inputs accommodate the simultaneous connection of up to three high definition video sources, such as satellite systems and HD DVD players. The output sends the high definition audio/video signals to a high definition display. Switching is done via the IR remote that is provided with the unit. HDCP (high bandwidth digital content protection) is a standard encoded into the video signal to prevent it from being pirated. If a source device is HDCP coded and is connected to a display or projector without the proper decoding mechanism, the picture is relegated to "snow" or in some cases, very low (480P) resolutions of the images. In order to see high resolution digital video with HDCP compliance, both the source, the display and anything in between must be equipped with HDMI connections that can enable HDCP decoding, such as the 3x1 HDMI Switcher. Simply connect all your sources to the Switcher's inputs. Then connect the display on the output port. Once the sources, the Switcher and the display(s) are powered and connected, you simply select which source you want to view using the IR remote. Note: This HDMI product supports BOTH Audio and Video signals. Package Includes: The 3x1 HDMI Switcher, RMT-3IR Remote control, Three 6-foot HDMI cables, 5VDC Power Supply, User's Manual.

How to Hook a Laptop to a TV - What Do You Need?

How to Hook a Laptop to a TV - What Do You Need?

Hdmi

Today, many laptops are designed more for media related purposes such as watching movies with blu-ray players, DVDs, and even the media from the hard drive. This gives many people a very good reason to use their laptop as a home theater entertainment source. It is also very useful for business related purposes.

Pretty much every laptop comes with an HDMI connection which is great for hooking the laptop to the TV. As long as both the TV and the laptop have an HDMI connection, any length of HDMI cable will work great for you. On some newer laptops, the video and audio can be transmitted from the lap top to TV from a single cable. However, if you are having trouble getting audio to play out of the TV, then you should get a stereo (headphone) to 2 RCA (red and white connections) audio adapter cable. This will allow you to play audio out of the laptop along with the beautiful picture an HDMI cable will provide.

If you have an older laptop that only has a VGA output, then you can use a VGA cable for the video, but it will not be able to produce the same high resolutions that an HDMI connection will provide. Some people ask if a VGA to HDMI converter will work, but unfortunately they will not be able to produce the same quality as HDMI.

Some laptops have a DVI output. DVI is capable of the same high resolutions HDMI can do since they are both the same type of digital signal. The only difference is that DVI can only carry video to the TV. So for those with DVI on their laptop, all you will need to hook the laptop to TV is a DVI to HDMI cable and the stereo to RCA adapter cable I mentioned earlier.

The Biggest Oversight When Hanging Your Flat Screen TV On The Wall

The Biggest Oversight When Hanging Your Flat Screen TV On The Wall

Hdmi

So you've saved your money now and buy a flat screen TV. Maybe you did it on an LCD or plasma.

I hope you do not spend all your money on the TV because there are some things you can budget for if you are not particularly useful around the house.

Where are you going to install the flat screen?

If you are mounting the TV on the wall, there is something very important for you to consider

Do you have a TV connected to the installedHeight you want your TV? Even if you say yes ... I'm sorry there is not enough. Let me explain.

Can you imagine where the TV is existing? Perhaps it is an entertainment center. Now close your eyes and see all these wires between your TV and connect the satellite receiver, DVD player and receiver.

Why do I bring this?

If you hang the TV on the wall with a standard TV jack installed en-

What's with all these threads, we just talkedit? How do you connect all the cables needed to work have all electronic devices to plan?

I told you that you do not think.

Unfortunately, with a single cable-TV over the fireplace ... The only option is to get your money:

· Satellite Receiver

· USB TV box

Surround Sound Receiver

· DVD Players

All the top of your fireplace beautiful!

Or have a number of annoying wires draped around theSquare as a major obstacle

Can you imagine going into a beautiful new house and seeing all those pieces of equipment on your balance fireplace?

You'd be surprised how many new homes will be built in this way. You install a simple TV socket on the fireplace. The owners are completely unaware. Unfortunately, it's up to you, the house the bill is properly connected.

What can we do?

If you get the best possible signal, thenHDMI cables are the way to go. One HDMI cable run thru the walls will do the work of all of those other wires we spoke of moments ago. To have this professionally done I would budget from 5- 5 for HDMI cables, depending on how long they need to be.

You can probably save two hundred dollars if you do this yourself.

Remember that buying the flat screen TV is just the beginning of your investment to have HD TV in your home.

HDMI Cables - Exploding the Myth and Biased HDMI Cable Reviews

HDMI Cables - Exploding the Myth and Biased HDMI Cable Reviews

Hdmi

Your home cinema system or audio visual system will require a certain level of cabling to maximise the available sound quality of your system. Therefore you will want to maximise your equipment with digital connections to each audio visual component to achieve the best listening experience. The very good news is that you can obtain noticeable sound quality improvements from your home cinema system through using suitable digital HDMI interconnects (High Definition Multimedia Interface).

In this article we explode the industry biased HDMI Cable Reviews and show you how with inexpensive standard HDMI cable you can achieve excellent results and enhance your home cinema listening experience and get noticeable sound quality improvement through your audio visual system utilising the available digital connections.

Choosing the best HDMI cables for your own system is a fairly straightforward process and there are a few things to be considered before you buy. Firstly, do not get brainwashed by retail shops that try to sell you the most expensive cables because they want you to spend as much as possible rather than understanding the needs or requirements of your home cinema setup - don't be fooled.

So what HDMI Cable would be best suited for my home cinema system?

Firstly, the basic principle behind HDMI is to transmit uncompressed digital data via 2 interfaces and digital data cables should be mainly compared by the quality of the components and manufacture. The HDMI Cable Reviews available seem to focus on the more you spend the more you achieve - well stop and think again. Good quality manufacture of an inexpensive HDMI connector cable gives the same results as spending 10x or 20x more.

Generally you will find that many of the available HDMI Cable Reviews do not explain the importance of the usages in differing applications of the standard home used HDMI interface. It is very useful to understand the importance of the different HDMI specifications, whereby, a Cat 1 cable is capable of sending an audio visual signal to achieve maximum results on a 720p or 1080i TV/LCD screen and a Cat 2 HDMI Cable is capable of delivering an audio visual signal to achieve best results on 720p, 1080i, 1080p & the new 1600p TV/LCD devices. The standard specifications for HDMI are a number ranging from 1.0 to 1.4 which represents the new HDMI specification and interface versions being made available right now, 1.4 being the latest DHMI interface specification. However, don't worry about these numbers as any new HDMI equipped devices are backwards compatible for cabling purposes.

It is important that you choose the minimum length of cable for connecting your equipment and getting an HDMI interconnect that has top manufacture quality. In order to achieve the best sound and video quality from your equipment the digital cabling plays a big part.

Apple iPad 2 Special Event 3/2/11 Part 2: iPad 2 is Unveiled

Apple iPad 2 Special Event 3/2/11 Part 2: iPad 2 is Unveiled On YouTube.

For our full coverage of the iPad 2 debut go to www.technomicon.com . In this part, Jobs takes the wrapper off the new iPad 2. It has almost everything we wanted and expected, a new faster dual core processor called the A5, front and back facing cameras similar to the iPhone 4, and updated OS (version 4.3), FaceTime and other new features. It's also 33% thinner, but with the same battery life. While the iPad 2 finally provides HDMI video output at 1080p it's not clear if the video output is really capable of 1080p. The demonstrations just showed video mirroring of the iPad 1024x768 pixel screen. This was a disappointment. Most really expected an upgraded screen resolution to something akin to the Motorola Xoom or better (so that it would finally be capable of displaying a native HD resolution such as 720p (1280x720). We'll have more on the new iPad 2 in the upcoming Tech Chat, which will debut in our all new, custom designed Web site next Monday. Look for it at beta.technomicon.com.

The Best Information on HDMI and DVI Cables

The Best Information on HDMI and DVI Cables

Hdmi

With the advancement of many electronic devices over the past decade has arisen the need for suitable cables. There are many cables on the free market for the various functions and various settings for someone to improve the electronics. A few strong demand cable includes an HDMI cable and DVI cable. These two lines are quite similar, but with some important differences.

Leave the first mention of the DVI cable, which stands for Digitalvisual interface. It 'was published in 1999, mainly for the transport of uncompressed digital video data to a display. At that time, was practically used for computer monitors, but now are widely used in televisions. This part can get a bit 'of confusion because there are three options for the DVI connection. These include the DVI-D, which is digital-only DVI-A, which is only analog and DVI-I, both digital and analog. So, before choosing the best DVI cable for you, make sureknow what you're getting.

The other cable I want to address here is the HDMI, which stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. This cable was introduced in 2002 and is a whole digital'video interface, the transfer of uncompressed data streams. It 'very similar if not the DVI-HDMI has the capacity, even audio and video signals. The two cables must be essentially the same thing, but the HDMI a little 'better because it is a bit' higher and may make itcouple more features than the DVI cable.

Whatever cable you choose, make sure you get one that is compatible with whatever you are trying to connect it with. There are a number of cables that do different things and can affect your electronic device in different ways, so do as much research as possible before making your purchase.
